Can you feel it? We are just about a month away from majority of the 2019-2020 Season productions finding homes on the Great White Way and beginning previews! It's such a fantastic time of year! Most of my time will be spent listening to cast albums, researching shows, and yes, looking at the message boards on BroadwayWorld.com to hear what all the unofficial critics have to say.

The 2019/2020 Season is a very interesting one. We have quite a few new works moving into NYC to try and become the next Hamilton. We also have some stellar revivals this season that are sure to dominate at the box office. Who will take home the Tony's this June? Time will tell as shows preview and open, and critics take their nasty shots at shows. But, here's what productions I'm looking forward to the most in the year of 2020.

1. The Music Man. 2020/2021 Season.

Yes, I'm pissed that this is kicking Beetlejuice out of the Winter Garden Theatre. But damn, I'm excited. I'm sure I'll write this a lot on this blog, I am in LOVE with Sutton Foster. Listening to her solo albums is what made me fall in love with the theatre. To see her take on this fierce and classic soprano persona is going to be heaven. I'm also excited to see Hugh Jackman conquer the role of Harold Hill. I boldly predict him and Ms. Foster both winning their respective Tony Awards in 2021. It'll defintely help that Mr. Scott Rudin is at the helm of this classic musical, and him and his team will surely do wonders in River City. And yes, I already have my ticket.

2. Company. 2019/2020 Season.

Here's to the ladies that lunch! First, I was excited that this production was transferring from London to NYC with Patti LuPone. Then, they announced Katrina Lenk would be playing Bobby and I was on cloud 9. THEN, they announced the rest of the cast! To name just a few, Christopher Sieber, Christopher Fitzgerald, Matt Doyle, and more. This will be the revival to beat in the 2019/2020 season, and I don't think it's going to be done. I'm incredibly excited for this production, and I'm eternally thankful for the current revival of Oklahoma! for creating a path of innovative and fresh revivals!

3. Six. 2019/2020 Season.

Does it get better than 6 bad ass woman belting and rocking out on a Broadway stage? Why no. No it doesn't. Six is quite literally taking the world by storm. Starting at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the producing team has literally taken this production around the world in just 3 years, and it hasn't even opened on Broadway yet. Six has seen stages on its UK tour, the West End, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, The ART Theatre, and the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton. The musical about the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII has a lot of hype, and I don't think it'll disappoint. It's already booked National tours, cruise lines, and more after the Broadway opening. Don't try super hard to see this in NYC, it'll be in your neighborhood soon.

4. Flying Over Sunset. 2019/2020 Season.

What do you get when you take James Lapine, Tom Kitt, Tony Yazbek, Harry Hadden-Paton, and Carmen Cusack on one production? You get a Broadway dream, that's what you get. This new musical opening at Lincoln Center in the 2019/2020 Season will be a real underdog when it comes to awards season. In a season with productions like Six and Moulin Rouge, I believe this epic storytelling piece will prevail and stand strong. Keep in mind, this musical is about an acid trip. I think this works perfectly, because most work by James Lapine feels like an acid trip. Can't wait for more on this production.

5. Mrs. Doubtfire. 2019/2020 Season.

Why yes poppet, she's a new musical. When I first heard this classic Robin Williams film was going to be turned into a musical, I like many of you, was very hesitant. I thought, "Give it some time, Alex. See where it goes". So far, I'm very intrigued. First off, a leading man like Rob McClure is sure not to disappoint. Coming off a fresh run from Beetlejuice, McClure is out to prove himself as a relevant leading man in todays Broadway. With Jerry Zaks at the helm, I'm confident he can once again master the Screen to Stage progression, and make this a great piece of theatre. I've read great reviews from its out-of-town in Seattle, and I'm excited to see how Mrs. Doubtfire makes a name for itself on the Great White Way.

Keep in mind, this list includes shows opening in 2020. The 2019/2020 season has very strong contenders that already are making strides in New York. This was tough to narrow down to just five, and my first off the list was Sing Street. It's coming to the game very late after a great run Off-Broadway, but normally that means the process is being rushed, and that never bodes well for a production.

As always. Do better. Suck less. Go team.
